dumpster diving

at the campus there's big dumpster, they put all kinds of old stuff, junk and broken things in it. me and a friend checked it a few times last days.

there are P1 166MMX's in it with 4x cdrom drive, 2GB HDD, floppy,.... many 14" screens too, all working and with power cable

the other guy found a router too. once re-flashed the brand new 100mbits router worked fine. we've also got some VGA switch and some printer port switches

that was already pretty nice. but it gets better. do you know those very expensive Fluke tue RMS multimeters? they tossed two "broken" multimeters in the dumpster. we checked them quickly: the LCD of one doesn't work 100% but it's still readable. there might be other damage. the other one (mine) measures still accurately but there must be some function of the multimeter broken.

it are true RMS meters, 600 euro (780dollar) a piece

let's hope they're not too much damaged when we fully test them

also, I took an old capacitator closet wit me. it's like a 19" rack, housed in some kind of desk. all in perfect condition. (poor naming of the objects, let the pics speak for themselves)

I'll put my fileserver in it I think. hooray for 2*120mm delta's in the front panel!

amazing what companies and others alike throw away...

Where my mom used to work they "cleaned up" once too. They threw out a all the (perfectly good) P3's and some P4's even (RDRAM models I assume)...

Anyways, lucky you with those flukes

and that DC case looks great for a custom case

have several 19" cases (old measure tools) in our 'tuinhuis', I should take some pictures, maybe you guys are intrested for custom cases
