The cost of fuel: ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!:
 

I've received a few emails now about the rising cost of fuel. It seems people are getting really upset for good reason. I found this email in my inbox today which was written by M. Matthews, Forest Engineering and Industry Services, Department of Natural Resources. Is a solution as easy as M. Matthews suggests?

The fact the matter is oil price is no difference than price of gold; an international standard.

The reasons behind difference in prices amoungst nations and locale are taxes, duty, government aids or not, and refinery capacity.

So, not filling up your tank for one day will only hurt your local suppliers and refinery facilaties ..... not the oil industry and certainly has nothing to do with what you have to pay locally.

if I remember my history lessons correctly, when demand is low, the price will be high, but if the demand rises, prices can go down.

I just remember that that history test was not soo good :rolleyes:

Short supply and high demand will command for high price.

Low demand and plenty of supply will be worthless .... how much are you willing to pay for a pound of sand in a desert :)

High demand could be a "local" event ....for example I don't give a damn on cocaine price because I don't use it :D

Stop complaining, gas prizes here in belgium are more than 3 times as expensive(*) and we generally earn less.

how much does the demand/supply play a role after all?
oil demand IS still increasing

First of all, gas is now $3 per US Gallon. Secondly, the complain came from Canada - first post. :)

Lastly, as I indicated the increase of gasoline price is locally since price of oil - what everyone pays in this WORLD; Belgium inclusive is the same according to per barrel of oil.

As for supply/demand economic Teus highlighted; just because world population is increasing and assuming we all wear underwear /= price of underwear keeps on increasing. :D

Maybe you Americans should finally consider driving "normal" cars which don't need their own gas-station :)

Or drive more economic (like I should do w/ my bike, I shift earlier and drop the gas when I see it's useless to keep driving - like a red light or small traffic jams)

I have lived in overseas and I must say U.S. is a bit different than most other countries; the size.

Most people driving not because they like driving; there is no public transportation. One of my daughters is living in the City and working in the city. She takes bus/train to work.

You cannot ride your bicycle 25 miles (38.75 Km) one way to get to work everyday, can you?

I, for one, have never been to Belgium although one day in the near future would like to. I wouldn't and couldn't comment on a place I have not visited; as you guys are the expert residents not me.

On the other hand, I am the expert resident in the U.S. ;)
