Windows boot issue after new hardware

I have just installed a new Mobo, CPU and RAM and my dualboot with XP and Vista now both crash once the Windows Loading screen comes up. My query is should Windows detect my change from a AMD X2 CPU to my new Intel Duo 6800 and adjust accordingly? Both Vista and XP crash at virtually the same point in loading which I can't work out. Both harddrives are same as previous so these have not changed. Could it be the SATA drivers, if so how can I change them on current installs?

if you change the motherboard and cpu brand you'll usualy have to do a fresh install of windows. Can you get into safe mode ?

Other hardware => other drivers...

both XP and Vista load about 20 dll files and restarts. Although its different dll files so I am royally stuck, I would have thought Vista might have had a way of catching the change in hardware and prompting for new drivers but I'm maybe expecting too much from it. Thanks for help though :)

To change drivers, boot in safe mode..

You should have removed all the drivers from your previous system and shut the system down.
Plug in the new hardware and boot.
Almost every time this will work.

Unless the new motherboard shares the exact same chipset you shouldn't expect Windows to do anything but BSOD. XP and Vista are NT based code, which bascially tailors itself upon install to your specific motherboard hardware... You'd need to go back to the days of Windows 98 and ME to change out motherboards with relative impunity. ;-)

If it was just new RAM and a new CPU you wouldn't have any issue, but changing boards will require a new OS install to avoid complications, even if the old install does manage to still boot.
