spyware problem

Hey all

I just installed tenebrils spy catcher awhile back and i've also been using avast antivirus for a long while before i installed spy catcher. Ran deep scans with avast every 2 to 3 weeks because i'm paranoid.

Anywho spycatcher says it's supposidly stoped about 5 malware programs from launching.

1. tried to change system settings

2. tried to change browser settings

3. spyware tried to run

4. Untrusted program tried to run

5. An application tried to record your keystrokes

I have this program on high alert like everything else anti virus or anti spyware on my system and i know how sometimes these programs overreact when something like xfire or gamespy loads up so i'm just wondering if this situation calls for a reformat and cancelation of my credit cards?

avast nor adaware 6.0 detected anything on my computer and the only thing i use this thing for is surfing, buying stuff online, and gaming.

what you guys think?

There are forums with people who know alot about spyware.
They ask you to download hijackthis , wich has the option to make a log of running processes etc. and from that list they locate the malware if present.
I dont know if there are people here with lots of knowledge about spyware but maby jou can post a hijackthis log here?

and maybe try rootkitrevealer ( http://www.sysinternals.com/Utilitie...tRevealer.html ).
Do check the forums (http://www.sysinternals.com/Forum/se...orm.asp?FID=15) for false positives (eg. alcohol120% uses a rootkit to bypass copy-protection systems from detecting it)

Hey all

thanks for the info on hijack this and hitman pro. Ran hijack and seeming the text from the log file was extensive and i didn't want to spam up the place i took a screen shot. It doesn't seem to me like there is anything harmful in there but perhaps you guys will see something i missed.

Also i do run adaware 6.0, spyware blaster, and rootkit revealer and they haven't found anything.

The only reason i went to avast in the first place is the fact that i used norton systemworks before that but people said norton really lagged your system up. Seeming a do alot of high end gaming i need all the performance i can get and avast did seem to help free up system memory.

Main reason i ask is cuz BF 2 keeps giving me dissconnect warnings which i haven't gotten since i got my new dual core rig. I imagined it might be a virus or something, but perhaps it's just BF 2 acting up as usuall.

If you have any suggestions for good anti virus software out there that you might think is better then avast or norton please let me know. I also used AVG free back when i was still running win 95 but i kept getting bad trojens and worms, if it's gotten any better lemme know and i'll try it again.

thanks for the help

I don't see anything that might be spyware. The [manualrun] d:\autorun\autorun is kinda weird.

mentalcrisis00 17th April 2006 15:02

have some new info, i uninstalled spycatcher and avast and installed Avira, trojan hunter, and hitman pro as suggested by someone on another forum and all of the sudden appinit_DLL:interceptor.DLL and Manuel D:/autorun/autorun prefaces were gone from the list when i scaned again in hijack this... I thought the trojan was taken care of by the antivirus or something but none of the stuff i was running said so. Mcafee does identify both files as potential trojans but i did a google search and someone on a forum said it was a part of spy catcher. Going on a hunch i reinstalled spycatcher and sure enough there both files were back in there when i ran hijack this again. So either spy catcher is bugged somehow or those files are legit and sposed to be there, perhaps files that identify the trojan interceptor or a mere coincidence, i really have no idea. But for now i'm just going to keep spy catcher off my system.

If anyone else has any ideas on what's up with spycatcher lemme know.
