Samsung Syncmaster 193p vs linux

hi all,

i want to buy a Samsung Syncmaster 193p, but it comes with one major problem: instead of OSD screen controls, all screen properties are controlled by a piece of software called 'Magic Tune', wich has no support for linux. so questions arise:
1. i presume that i'll be able to use the screen on some default settings, so the screen won't be completely worthless, but i'm not sure if i'll like the default settings (and considering it's hefty price tag, i'd appreciate that). so who has one/tried it with linux/wants to pop in knoppix to tell me?
2. how likely do you think it is that samsung will bring a linux version out? (since it's a really hardware kinda thing, i think wine/some emulator won't do the trick)
3. suppose i boot windows, adjust settings and reboot linux, will settings still aplly or will i get the default ones?

ok, i'll reply to my own post for some partial solutions:

1. i think emulation could be done, but ...
the controls used for the screen are part of a VESA-standard (i was really surprised, but it's not completely open) called DDC/CI and there exist some linux program called ddccontrol (google for it) which works for me (after some modifications). for now i can tune brightness/contrast and even the magicbright settings.

so: phase 2 is:
1. color tuning (also via ddccontrol)
2. pivot: people who now have to enable pivoting under linux (for example by using randr-extenions (especially for radeon)) please let me know
