Default RAM questions

hi

1. using RAMs from diffrent manufactors in 1 system will causes lag ? ( lets say kingston 256 400 and apacer 256 400 )

2. using 1x512 RAM will actually faster than 2x256 ?
( k 512 400 vs k 256 400 x 2 , k = kingston )

thanks
