Default Problem with CS

I've got some troubles with a specific game, counter-strike.
When I play a resolution above 640 x ... , I can join a server but when I wanna play on another server by pressing escape , my screen becomes black and I cant do anything then .
Somebody knows a solution for this ?

thx
