PErformance relation to PSU ?

Hi,

I got myself involved in a discussion about that effect a PSU has on performance.

I got an 6800GT and de PSU is an Enermax 350W. My rig also has a lot of power needed thingies. (3 HD, 1 DVD writer, 2 * 120mm, 5 * 80mm, 1 lcc fluo lamp, some apps on the usb's ... )

Would my 6800GT perform better if hook up an 500 W PSU ? I didn't think so, but other say it does.

all stock and no tweaks. (think the cpu is the bottleneck)

Your PSU just has to have stable voltlines. That's all I think.

in one case, yes.
if you PSU can't deliver enough voltage, your GPU will clock down because of it (newer nvidia based).
but you will know when this happens, an error will display.

when this error isn't there, your card will perform equal to a 1000watt PSU.

where do i see that error . in the event Log ?

no you will see one when booting up and when trying to play 3D games afaik

ok thx. i knew the other one was talking BS. ;)

with more stable voltlines, you'll also be able to overclock higher but don't expect miracles.

I had the same thing with the same card but I had my molex plugged in and it made good contact cuz' I measured at the back of the female molex on the vidcard and the readings were good...
