what do mean with "cant get on the network"

do you use a HUB/SWITCH to connect?
does the lights on the networkcard come alive?

does the router provide your PC with an IP address (DHCP) ?

he can't go "on the network" meaning he cant see the other PC's?

try
start -> run

\\ip_address_of_pc_he_wants_to_connect_to

what happens then?
