you probably don't have the mediaplayer 9 or 10 codec.

well the files are wmv files, playing them with as well windows media player 9 as 10, playing them with bsplayer, playing them with windvd generates same problem.
the sound is there, the visuals are absent.
mpeg files play perfectly

VideoLAN is also a very good player, but i prefer BSplayer .

well...problem solved and the solution is very easy but also very confusing.

I have ati catalyst center installed and 4.10 cats...
apparently when installing ati catalyst it changed the settings for video playback for some files to contrast 0%. thus eliminating any visuals...
the movie was playing, it was just not visible.

and that got me to install and reinstall about a ton of codecs and players.
I am specialized in NON-problems
