Default linux book

Well, it's almost NY and I think I'm going to ask a book about linux.
But, wich one ?
I'd like to have one that covers the basics of every distribution (the parts that are supposed to be the same) and goes in detail about Red Hat (9 or Enterprise).

I'm a total linux n00b, but, I want one that is detailed and realy learns you to work w/ it in text modus.

I know 2 books from the library, on is linux in 24 hours, but that one sucks, because it's to basic, doesn't give enough info and doesn't learn you the text mode stuff. The other one is Linux (from Easy Computing) wich is great, lots of info, lots of command, lots of console stuff, but is based on an older version of slackware and red hat (a lot doesn't wonna work).

thanks

That's gonna help me a lot .

But a book for NY would also be nice (I still prefer reading a book than destroying my eyes reading a book on my damned ol' 15" crt screen (1152*864@70Hz, not bad for a screen w/ optimal resolution of 800*600  )
