screw gentoo, on my Linux machine (ECS k7s5a, 2000+, 320MB SDram) it doesn't want to compile everything. I always get errors!

geez, back to RH9

which errors do you get? Can you give your make.conf settings? Overclocked?

not overclocked. default make.conf settings. all kinds of errors, related to the stuff I want to compile

the last thing I've tried was the stage3 tarball. while compiling it gave an error related to multiprocessors. removed SMP support, still had some error related to that

weird. RH9 works smoothly and it's folding atm

you shouldn't use the default make.conf. It's extremely easy to change it to your specific processor and gain speed/stability.

i686 is not wrong, but athlon-xp would have been better : )
