intel core 2 duo

Hey guys

Im new here but need some help on the right cpu for my system.

Specs

CPU: p4 3.4
VGA: Gigabyte x1600 (waiting for dx 10 to get new card)
RAM: Corsair 2gb 6400 dual chanel
MOBO: Gigabyte Ga-965p-s3
Heatsink: Thermaltake Big Typhoon XV

I was wanting to know if it is worth spending the extra $150 to go from the 6300 too the 6600?

and what overclocking feature can i expect out of both?

"Thats in AUS dollars by the way"

Thanks guys.

I would go with neither; check for E6420 or E2160 (for really tight budget); the E6420 has 4mb cache like the E6400, but is cheaper and the extra cache does help, on average +10%.

OC wise, the E2160 is pretty sweet, a high multiplier and low stock FSB allow you to push the CPU to the limit even with modest OC motherboards; best bang for the buck; if you don't want to OC that much, E6420 will be nice:)

I have an E6400 running at 2.8Ghz and it's too fast in most games;) no difference when I clock down to 2.4ghz

Rather go E6550 instead of E6420 :)

Does his mobo support 1333FSB CPU?

Then I agree with piotke, get the E6550 if you can afford it (I don't know how much it costs where you are going to buy it).
