installing waterkoeling kills cpu temp sensor ?

I recieved a new motherboard : ASUS A7N8X-X
i installed aircooling and an old duron 950 with no case :
the bios ; speedfan and an asus tool say the cpu temp is +- 33°C

now this all looked good ,
i installed my watercooling ,
powerd up the system
checked the bios temp :cpu : 127°C / 1°F
-> ????

i directly shutted the system down
took the waterblok off the cpu , but the core wasnt warm at all..

hmm weird , the waterblok was perfecto installed , as i could see from the thermal goop mirror on the block

i re-installed my aircooling then ,
same temp as before +- 125 - 127 °C :/
i must have damaged the temp sensor , but i cant find one in the socket ..

whats also weird : when i stress my system with folding : everything is normal ; but when i prime with prime 95 , the motherboard makes a crispy sound , very spooky...

Same motherboard

stressed temps
asus probe : 32°C
seperate on die temp reader : 37°C
... with higher Vcore the difference can amount to 10°C :o

If i were you i would install another temp-reader as the onboard one ain't to accurate.

good idea!
where can i get one in belgium ?

Enough choice if you go for a device that fits into the 5,25 bay, price around 30 EUR (bonus : some front accessible stuff like firewire, sound, usb, ...)

watercooling creates 0% airflow around your CPU socket, higher temps can be expected if you dont have an on DIE temp sensor.

but -127/-1 seems like a malfunctional temp sensor to me. This is measured in the BIOS?

try to flash it to latest version.

yes measured in the bios ,
but it worked when i installed it a few hours ago

asus temp readouts are known to be verrrrrrry buggy in some bios versions :)

I think i'm gonna buy something like that , what would you advice ?
Just core temp , price and not bad looking is important , usb / firewire/ etc is just bonus.

this black 'tiger' panel , where did you buy it ?

@ zeta.be , they sell al lot of different hardcanos , but this one looks better in my humble opinion

just took the cpu off the mobo ,
couldn't see a sensor ...
maybe it reads from the intern sensor of the cpu ?
old durons dont have an intern temp diode ?
tommorow i will plug my tbred back in ... we will see then

[Bonbon] 13th October 2003 20:26

just installed tbred again , temps still dont work
looks like the mobo sensor is also incorrect
maybe gonna flash the bios ons of these days

[Bonbon] 23rd October 2003 14:17

just updated the bios from ver 1005 to 1007 ;
no change , pitty :(
i'm going to leave it like that , my 1800+ bred is rockstable @ 166*12.5 (2600+) @ 1.55 V on air. no need for a temp sensor.
