Default Hard drive half not working?

I've just moved a system to a new case without changing any components - everything is working fine except for the fact that the hard drive (an elderly 60GB Maxtor) isn't detected. BIOS can neither detect it manually nor automatically. It doesn't sound like the hard drive starts spinning at all, but I may be mistaken on that. If I unplug the IDE cable and boot up the system it doesn't check for any hard drive on the primary master but just says "Not Detected", but if the IDE cable is plugged into the drive (and to the mobo's IDE controller in both cases), it actually tries to detect it but finds nothing

Suggestions greatly appreciated

The drive is connected to the power supply because there's a small green LED on the bottom of the disk that lights up when the power is on. I've now double-checked the connectors as well, but to no avail. I also noticed that the jumper was actually set incorrectly (but then again, it worked before) and setting it correctly didn't help...

Haven't tried another IDE cable becuase I haven't got any lying around at the moment.

I tried disconnecting the CDROM drive fom the motherboard's secondary IDE controller and all of a sudden, it detected the hard drive as usual. This is, of course, not enough...

check the CD, put everything on cable select.
press all connections firmly.
See to it you haven't reversed polarity on some cables.

... That's it
