ga-965gm-s2 firewire problem

hi all,

i got a problem with a pc i'm trying to install for a friend. it's a pentium dual core 1,83 gHz machine with a gigabyte ga-965gm-s2 mobo. i installed XP SP2 on it and all latest drivers for the hardware. as the pc is intented to be used as a DAW (digital audio workstation), i want to keep it as far from the internet as possible, to avoid the risk of being infected with viruses and/or spyware. as a result, i disabled the ethernet card.
the thing is: XP won't recognise anything that's connected to any firewire port. or, if it does, it immediately loses connection. i though the firewire port on the mobo was the culprit, so i installed a belkin firewire card (TI chipset), of no avail.
i tried to set the belkin card on an unoccupied IRQ in the bios, of no avail.
i downloaded and install the microsoft firewire patch, of no avail.

any ideas, anyone?

thx in advance,

stokki.
