Dropped my graphics card, is it repairable?
 

I have a 9550 128mb ATI Sapphire card. I dropped the thing accidentally and it knocked off a resistor or capacitator on the back. It is one of the ones directly behind the gpu on the back of the card. I made a sketch, it is missing the red one. When it dropped, the thing poped off, never to be found again. How can I get another to solder it back? How can I find out what the heck it was?

My brother in law bought a 9600, and it is the EXACT same card. He lives far away, and I have no idea how to test what is missing. I would appreciate any help.

easiest solution would be to email Sapphire and ask for a high detail shot of the back of the 9550 card; ...

You have one year warranty ... try getting a RMA and return it, the best route to take.;)

Well, I have no reciept or anything like that because someone gave me the card. I have taken a good picture. I would like to repair it if possible.

Since your brother-in-law has the same, can't he mail you a high detail pic of his card? or check if he can't see what's on that resistor.

eather way, those things are hard to get afaik and even harder to solder back on, certainly with regular soldering equipment.

It does not say anything on it. It is a brown capacitor or resitor with only two sides. It is not a transistor or anything like that. Does anyone know how to test a chip that is mounted, like what type of equipment etc to see what the hell that thing is? The pic I posted is pretty high resolution. Is a higher res pic needed?

Those are sub-miniture resistors. Like I said return for replacement. The serial number alone is good enough. Tell them you got it as a gift.

You have messed up with any solder; now you will never be able to return it.

It can be a resistor, capacitor, etc. There are many different SMD-components :)
You just need to know what component it is and the value. Easy said, of course :) Are you sure you cannot find the missing component? Take a vacuum-cleaner, put a nylon sock on it and clean the complete room. All dirt (and hopefully the component) cannot be sucked up because of the nylon sock.
