Default DNS name resolving under W2K

For a new software-pakket (personel administration) the software firm asks me if my i-net settings allow DNS name resolving.

I have W2K SP2 + IE 6 SP1

I think DNS resolving is like a public IP, not a dynamic one. I only have a dynamic one, so ... if i give the firm an IP like "iamhere.no-ip.org" ... would that be OK ?

When i phone the firm no-one can help me because the two "specialists" are ill.

uhm your inet settings allow dns resolving, means that you have a DNS server configured in your TCP/IP settings of your network

start -> run -> cmd

ipconfig /all

Code:
Host Name . . . . . . . . . : ***************** **DNS Servers . . . . . . . . : 170.64.213.18 170.64.216.149 Node Type . . . . . . . . . : Hybrid NetBIOS Scope ID. . . . . . : IP Routing Enabled. . . . . : No WINS Proxy Enabled. . . . . : No NetBIOS Resolution Uses DNS : No 0 Ethernet adapter : Description . . . . . . . . : Intel 8255x-based Integrated Fast Ethernet Physical Address. . . . . . : 00-08-02-22-B4-CE DHCP Enabled. . . . . . . . : Yes IP Address. . . . . . . . . : 170.64.213.154 Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . : 255.255.252.0 Default Gateway . . . . . . : 170.64.212.1 DHCP Server . . . . . . . . : 170.64.213.18 Primary WINS Server . . . . : 170.64.213.18 Secondary WINS Server . . . : 170.64.216.149 Lease Obtained. . . . . . . : 12 10 02 08:07:25 Lease Expires . . . . . . . : 12 17 02 08:07:25
line with ** should be the one from your inet provider

if you use DNS in your LAN, they will be happy

you can alternative use, netbios, WINS, etc

they want to verify if DNS is used or not
