CPU Fan/Burning Smell/Weird Noises

Hi, I have recently been having problems with my computer. I have been
getting weird noises when I start up the computer, after I hear this I
immediately turn off my computer and wait a while and turn it back on,
then there are no more noises. This happens every once in a while.
Another problem that happens once in a while is the burning smell that
I can smell in my whole room. I have the side cover off of my computer
and can smell it in there very strong. And another problem is I can
hear my CPU Fan turning on/off and then going from very fast to very
slow.. I really need some help so can anyone please help me?

p.s. i have recently formatted my computer

- what motherboard and CPU do you have?
- what CPU cooler do you use?
- did you change CPU fan settings in the BIOS
- do you have software monitoring tools installed for CPU temps, (speedfan?) can you see can you tell me your room temp & CPU temp?

this is a bit of a guess, but it's the usual suspect:
weird noise: the fan of the GPU or Northbridge that weared out
fan going on/off: that's usualy normal behavoir, the fan switches on when the cpu is getting hot, our computer at school to the same thing.
burning smell: it might be the northbridge or gpu wich is overheating due to a failing fan.
