chkdsk runs every time after boot. like title says basically. after every cold boot or reboot, chkdsk runs in order to check partition E. Every single time. I had this before but I had windows do a complete check of that partition that time (sweet jeebus does that take forever or what!) and after that, the comp didn't run chkdsk any more but for some reason, that doesn't' work anymore. Rclick E - properties - tools - error checking - "autimatically fix file system errors" doesn't work this time because if I enable it, comp wants to reboot but when I do and try again, he AGAIN asks me to reboot if I want to enable it. so what should I do to stop it from running chkdsk every time? I called netsquare to ask and he told me to go into the recovery console and run chkdsk with a /p parameter. I thought the recovery console was the "system recovery" option but I have it disabled... |
is your E drive FAT32 ? |
nop, sata disk, ntfs os is windows xp pro sp1 |
I think this should work for you. Run Regedit and navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Session Manager. Now double-click on BootExecute. When the dialog box opens, change the value to autocheck autochk * and click on OK. Close Regedit. When you restart, chkdisk will not run. If you want to make a .reg file to import it instead, just copy the info below and paste it into a text file and rename the extension from .txt to .reg, then double click the file to import into the registry. Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Session Manager] "BootExecute"=hex(7):61,00,75,00,74,00,6f,00,63,00 ,68,00,65,00,63,00,6b,00,20,\ 00,61,00,75,00,74,00,6f,00,63,00,68,00,6b,00,20,00 ,2a,00,00,00,00,00 |
Also check if partition is logical or primary. |
it's a logical logical partition. thx :) I'll let you know if it helped after a reboot. |
take note of the extra linebreak in there (.reg) unable to remove it, error in copy/paste |
is this a linebreak? / I made the reg file and imported it into the registry, then checked if the value had changed and it says what it's supposed to say and I checked the binary and it's also like you posted it. but it didn't work :/ |
