Default ATI vs VIA

I am one of those girls that went out and bought a Radeon X1650 pro for an aging system. Athlon xp 2600. a gig of ddr400 all on a MSI motherboard.

OK, here is the deal, I have been told by ATI that I need to go and get the latest VIA, AGP chipset drivers,,,I have the 8237 chipset with a KT600 board.

I just can't get my ATI, HDTV Wonder card to work,,,,one tech told me I needed new drivers, another tech told me the HD card was bad,,,,I am NOT convinced of that..so I tried it in another system,,,the card is GOOD !...as a matter of fact I tried it in a P3-500 with LESS than 100mb of RAM in it and the card still worked.....well sorta...it tried..I am convinced however that it is a driver issue, a ghost driver lurking around from an older install, this system has had alot of ATI products in it over the years.

Whats the answer ?.....yea I know, get a new motherboard,CPU,ram, etc...but even alot of newer boards are still using the 8237 chipset ! and I am now so totally confused........

HELP !

Brit

Did you try Drivercleaner to uninstal older 'ghost' drivers?

Driver Cleaner too?
http://www.softpedia.com/get/Securit...-Cleaner.shtml

- uninstall everything ATI through add/remove programs
- then remove everything ATI through drivercleaner
- reboot machine in Safe Mode
- run drivercleaner again and remove everything ATI related
- restart machine in "normal" mode and get the latest HDTV ATI wonder drivers ready

latest VIA 4in1 drivers for the motherboard chipset can be found here: http://www.viaarena.com/?PageID=2
