Removing the IHS from A64 or Prescott?

Can it be done? Has it been done? I feel the A64 runs quite warm, and in some "cases" (no pun intended) warmer then the Prescott. True Prescott cooks mobo power circuitry (mosfetts) supplying the CPU, but it's on-die temp is nly a few centigrade above Northwood. However A64 seems to be hotter then Northwood, and cooler then Prescott in my watercooling experience. Now I know some will cal me crazy, but i beleive I've seen the vidence in the waterblocks I've tried on the Prescott 3.0 compared to the A64 3400, and the latter runs much high all things being equal (Cool-Cases CF-1/CF-2, DD TDX/RBX etc.) What's the dealeo? Shant I try to "pluck" the ole IHS off two warrantied CPU's or not?

I could feel that you have had this idea for a few days .....

From what I've gathered, your asumption is correct that A64 could well be hotter than Northwood and less than Prescott.

Some one has to make the sacrifice, may as well be you. You have to scratch that itch of yours anyway.:^D
