P4 2.4 producing way too much heat

Normally i'm repelled with threads that start with "are my temps too high?", but this just can't be right:

P4 2.4B 1.45v, stock speed, stock cooler:
idle temp 56°C
stressed ~62°C

P4 2.4B 1.45v, stock speed, alpa 8942 with medium rpm 80mm:
idle: 55°C
stressed: 58° and going up

The case is well ventilated. Both the stock cooler & alpa 8942 are properly seated and thermal paste is used. This P4 produces less heat than my XP2400+, and it's 20°C hotter with a better heatsink!

The heatsink feels about as warm as my heatsink would feel like with my XP2400 @ ~40°C, but it the bios reads 60°C. I can clearly see the heatsink making good contact, so what could be the problem?

Maybe the components for reading the P4 diode are faulty? I've got the latest bios flashed into my MSI 845E board.

Normally i wouldn't freak out that quickly, but it's my dads computer he hates the temp being above 50°...

- reseat the heatsink
- check airflow in case

what's the roomtemp?
No casefans present whatsoever ?

1x 90mm casefan @ 3v :gay:
+ standard intel cooler

P4 1.8@2550 - 1.6v

room temp 22°C

same thing here : stock sink, stock vcore 2.66 at 3.0 :stressed up to 68°C

hiero, room temp +/- 23° atm, PIV @2550, stock voltages doing 53° stressed with alpha pal and delta fan@ 5V + 3 casefans @ 7V

and then people dare to say that AMD has heat problems:D

My P4 2000@2500 goes to a max of 47°c @ 1,7V with casetemp @ 20°c

I think there's something wrong with your mobo RB

mmmmm my P4 2.4@2.8 has temps off :

idle : 36
stressed : 45

that`s with watercooling though

friend of mine has the same setup with aircooling :

idle : 40
stressed : 48

hope I`ve contributed to your problem ;)
