overclocking bit p35pro motherboard

I am new to computers and forums . I have a new build With a Abit p35pro motherboard , Q6600 cpu , 2gb corsair 6400 ,nividia 8800 gt video card and windows xp pro .. I have only tried to overclock in the Abit guru set up. I have tried setting the Cpu volts as high as 1.45 v but if I try to take the external clock over 320 my computer dies and I have to reboot . What am I doing wrong ???

Hey Jacksbud, I would try to do things in the BIOS first, increase vcore to 1.4v and increase the FSB (external clock) in steps of 10Mhz, each time booting into WIndows and running OCCT for 10minutes to make sure the system is stable enough.

When you run into stability issues, check the speed of the memory with CPU-Z (third tab in the application), check the timings, and if possible go into the BIOS and relax them to CL5 5-5-18 setting, maybe increase the volts to the memory by 0.2v too.

below 400Mhz FSB you shouldn't worry about the voltage of the northbridge much, (MCH). I'm sure a few of the other forum members will be able to help you further though; post as much info as possible; CPU-z screenshots and BIOS revision as well as the memory timings of your 2Gb memory

Abit Ip35pro

Thanks , I have only been fooling with computers for about a year . I have been a little chicken about fooling with the bios. With guru if you crash all you have to do is cut the power off and on and the board resets back to where you started .
