Overclock your car ?

Coulnd't resist it, I overclocked my car :)
From 115Hp to 145hp.
You sure can feel the difference.

geoffrey 7th May 2008 17:22

What car, volkswagen?

jmke 7th May 2008 17:24

Audi A4 Break :)
quanta costa?

did the chiptuning yourself?

Gamer 7th May 2008 17:28

Nope, someone from 9-lives.

€399, my wife hasn't found out yet :p

Massman 7th May 2008 17:34

She will, next time she's in the car ... :p

Pardons 7th May 2008 17:55

LOL now he can deal his drugs faster :p

wifey is no issue, just hope that insurance doesn't find out if you ever have an accident... because if your car has more BHP than what it's insured for... you'll pay all

Gamer 7th May 2008 18:14

Nah, not realy.
Even lease cars are overclocked.

I'll ask my agent.

geoffrey 7th May 2008 18:21

Indeed, when you have an accident at least crash the whole front side!

Hmm, someone at 9lives, could it be XTRATEC? 399€ sounds like a lot to me, though you get over 25% extra power so it might be worth the upgrade after all. Friend of me has 130pk A4 break, nice car to drive with, I guess the 145pk will be roughly the same. What exactly does it do, increase turbo pressure? What's your new high speed top score? :p

I remember once reading an article talking about ODB2, car analysis for the electronics minded guy. When I'm old I ... :p

blind_ripper 7th May 2008 18:47

gamer john is right tough ;) .
my friend's alfa has 200PK that's something with a rush :D.

looked at the site and my car can go from the standerd 90pk to 115pk :), still im very happy with the 90pk and the top speed off 200km/u :p.

@ witte (sorry voor het nederlands) het veranderd het regelen van het verbruik door de onboard chip te veranderen ;) .
als je aan de turbo prutst zal je alleen het geluid en klein beetje (max 5pk) veranderen bij een standaart turbo ;).

Sidney 7th May 2008 19:10

K&N air filter + better intake duct alone would provide 10% higher HP. You could feel/see the rpm picking up faster in an instant.

jmke 7th May 2008 19:12

does that work on TurboDiesels?:)

geoffrey 7th May 2008 19:52

John, why not?

Resourceful: http://www.katho.be/vhti/automechani...chiptuning.htm
More torque in first place, turbo and injection adjustments.

My car could use K&N air filter, would make the 14y old Toyota engine sound out better. I all ready like it all ready, car doesn't look too great but at least the sound is somehow satisfying.

@ Sidney, what about the collector, I heard that a collector with more flow isn't necessarily better, because of pressure that has to build up. You have to search for the right combination so it seemed.

Gamer 8th May 2008 18:35

Did some tests today, I doesn't smoke and drives great :)
Turbo kicks in at 2000rpm, previous was 2200.
Now, It normaly uses 5.7l/100km, so I don't know why I did this mod :p

Will test top speed this weekend, It was already 210 km/h.
Fuel consumption has dropped a bit, I think.

jmke 8th May 2008 18:37

what an ugly sig template;)

Sidney 8th May 2008 18:38

Collector? Do you mean exhaust 4n1 or 6n1?

If so, they certainly will, due to lower pressure. However, higher pressure aids at highend speed while low increases acceleration.

K&N is offering a lot of air filters that will fit inside the stock air box. They also offer "cool kit" which includes intake air duct. I know they carry filter for Toyota. It does require "oiling" after about 30k miles; the filter can be washed and reoiled.

It will work on diesel engines; any time you increase air intake without bad turbulence into combusion chamber you are increasing fuel/air mixture.

Most BWM has exhaust collectors. The bad; they are not made of cast iron and don't last as long.

Gamer 8th May 2008 21:00

ps, it's yours JMke :p

jmke 8th May 2008 21:05

Mine's updated;)

Gamer 8th May 2008 21:08

lol, is that a crab ?

Crabs are decapod crustaceans of the infraorder Brachyura, which typically have a very short projecting "tail"

jmke 8th May 2008 21:09

an oversized Shrimp!

Collector, as in, the four pipes pictured beneath:

wicked ones out there too

Sidney 8th May 2008 22:46

4n1 :)

I installed a 6-2-1 in my Z 20 years ago. It couldn't stand the heat, after 10 years, I put the original back. I own cars >25 years.:D

Had a Chevy small block V8, with two 4n1 to 2 to 1 30 years ago.

jmke 9th May 2008 08:01

ah, the reason why I dont invest in things like that, longest I got to use a car was 4 years, drove over 70 cars in the last 10 years ;)

Gamer 1st June 2010 17:14

Let the force be with you.

We a wise guy Blind, I still need someone to finetune that cascade :p

dafour 7th June 2010 11:41

Would you recommend chip after 210.000 km's?
I love to see what a 1.9 TDI PD can do.

jmke 7th June 2010 12:09

from what I've read on autoforum & audiforum.nl it's still doable to chip a car with <150.000
at >200.000 you won't get much ROI as other parts of the car/engine will fail and with incremental costs each time to fix it

geoffrey 7th June 2010 22:03

All depends on how well you threated your car. I've been looking at EDS Motorsport tuning, they're well known for tuning Opel cars and I've read some good stuff from dutch peeps who were pleased with their deal. they offer a apparatus which allows you to do the flashing yourself, so if your original opel dealer screws up the perf tuning you can always reflash it. maybe something for later this year...
Well probable swap air filter too then, get a sport version. Other stuff would cost way too much time in working hours.

Gamer 3rd August 2010 18:58

blind_ripper 4th August 2010 20:08

altijd goed warm rijden he voor ge gaat :D.
