Default New to overclocking

Hey Guys
Great posts. I have learned alot from ur posts in just a short time. I have a few questionsthat most of which u probably hear constantly. I am presently running an AMD 1.2 Athlon on an abit kt7 MB Im running a SB live 5.1, ATI Radeon 7000. The ram is 384 and I don't know the Manufacture. Im also running a thermaltake orb on my cpu

Now for me to overclock this do i have to apply something to the chip to bridge the L1. Also would u be able to give me a guide to what extent i can run the chip too with out over taxing the system or the chip or overtaxing my wallet.

Now for my last few questions, Im also looking at upgrading to a new PC, I am looking at the AMD 2200 XP on a ABit kd7 MB with 512 DDR PC 2700, ATI all in wonder 7500 64mb. Is this set up plausable to overclock and to what extent without getting to complicated? Is the MB ok for this or do u have any suggestions on what MB i should use i do like haveing the Abit MB's

For your last question:

look for a 1700 t'bred B, it'l be cheaper then that 2200+ and will give the same performance when overclocked.
A radeon 7500 isn't a great performer, look for a ti4200 or a radeon 9500 that mayb can be softmodded to a 9700.

You only need to close the L1 bridges if you want to change the multiplier. I'm not sure, but i think this was duable but a pencil. Check the HWfaq ( http://hwfaq.be ) to find a howto.

1.4ghz at 1.85v should be in reach with your cpu/cooler. Is it a copper orb (cfr dragon orb 3)?

The KD7 uses the KT400 chipset, which is awfull for overclocking purposes.

If you like abit (and i don't blame you), buy yourself a abit NF7(-s) rev 1.2. The Epox 8rda+ is a little cheaper, and is a bit better for tweaking, but quality control is not that good.
Don't buy one stick of 512mb, get 2*256mb PC3200 instead. The NF7-(S) uses the nforceČ chipset, which benefits from 2 sticks instead of 1 (dual channel ddr).

The Ati 7500 is an outdated videocard and doesn't overclock that good. If you want a cheap, overclockable videocard get the GF4 Ti4200 or ATi R9500 Pro.

Welcome to our forums!
I'm going to move this to the appropiate section.
