Ok, reveived board and vga, took some pictures of the vga.
Warning, I left those pictures big so you can enlarge the specific part of the pic you need/want.

About the ride, any details we should know?
Settings to use for Wprime etc.?

blind_ripper 22nd May 2008 15:59

oneyedk zoom in on the front part at the back of it where the ic's are ;)

edit: also put it on xs becaus there it will go fast ;)

Errr... front part at the back of it? Errr...

jmke 22nd May 2008 16:10

at the back of the card, near the mounting bracket;)

you have to be able to understand Blindenese if you want to OC;)

blind_ripper 22nd May 2008 16:12

^^
no no the front where u can see the core at the back of it where the 6pin pci-e molex go's in ;)

I don't thing that's a PWM-chip...

OneyedK 22nd May 2008 16:21

I think this is the vcore regulator, RT8802A:

blind_ripper 22nd May 2008 16:21

if u say so :) , il take pics tonight ;).
who wll put these on xs ??

yep that's the one ;) ,and the smaller one could be the one to ;)

Nope, the other two are buffer and Mosfet driver (RT9619A)...
Still looking for the vmem regulator.

You can use these pictures to post on XS, I'll keep looking until I found that vmem-regulator.

jmke 22nd May 2008 16:32

invite XS over here;p

blind_ripper 22nd May 2008 16:33

ik ken nieks van elentric daarom dak alles vraag :D

jmke 22nd May 2008 16:34

keep it in EN ;)
we're in the same boat; invite Geoffrey over:D

MSI HD3850 VMOD and go

here the vgpu mod should come.

vmem comming up .

thx for the help in advance to all u guy's

geoffrey 22nd May 2008 16:44

Post what voltages you read at the big coils, side closest to the GPU.

More pictures would help, and what text is on those chips?

OneyedK 22nd May 2008 16:55

btw, RT8802A is VID controlled  This is not good news...

/edit: different configuration on this card, so no VID-control, sorry...

why is that no good news?

OneyedK 22nd May 2008 17:32

Nice, a 100k variable resistor between pin 4 and ground should do the trick...

Will do the mod tomorrow, test it and post a picture of the mod.
Maybe we also have to remove the current protection

blind_ripper 22nd May 2008 17:51

hot solder iron ready give me pics :D

jmke 22nd May 2008 17:55

If it was VID-controlled, we had to modify 8-bits, you can't do that on the fly.

The pin 4 (feedback to ground resistor) mod can be adjusted on the fly.

It's the cooperation of both, no VID voltage setting without any feedback loop.

EDIT: bloody spam! this thread has grown quite a lot last few ours! :|

Jip 22nd May 2008 18:32

the vmod are authorized ??

Because i read on the rules for MSI European Contest for the France, the vmod are not authorized... :/

i would like know if is authorized...

Thank's...

geoffrey 22nd May 2008 18:32

RT88... for Memory
AT..... for GPU

Three big coils read GPU core voltage
smaller one next to it read memory voltage

post some voltage results just to be sure ;)

No way to check it, so I guess it is authorized, for Belgium at least :)

OneyedK 22nd May 2008 18:34

Any ideas on the vmem regulator. Could it be the RT8105, near the last Mosfets/coil ?

Massman 22nd May 2008 18:35

RT8105 sounds familiar, to be honnest.

Jip 22nd May 2008 18:37

ok ok thank's for news ;)

OneyedK 22nd May 2008 18:38

Can't seem to find a datasheet online...

Massman 22nd May 2008 18:41

Second round is still in hands of Madshrimps, so we are allowed to decide over vmods or not :) :D

Jip 22nd May 2008 18:50

ok thank's massman, it was just to know the right decision ;)

I'll vmod too ^^

You have find for the vdroop ??

Belgium rules set is cooler :) VOLTMOD/Extreme Cooling allowed :D

Jip 22nd May 2008 19:01

it's more fun ^^

Can i post on Overclex or i must post here ??

jmke 22nd May 2008 19:09

would appreciate if you jump in here to report on your progress :)

Jip 22nd May 2008 19:10

well no problem i post on the both...

One in french the other in english ^^

blind_ripper 22nd May 2008 19:24

solder points plz :D looks like oneyedk knows his electrics :)

blind_ripper 22nd May 2008 19:50

Attachment 1828
there we go :)

OneyedK 22nd May 2008 22:05

My Russian is not so good, but from what I understand, RT8105 should be the same as APW7065. For a higher output voltage (vmem), we need to lower the resistance from pin 6 (FeedBack) to ground. (already 780Ohm on my card).
A VR with a value of 10k or 20k to ground should do the trick.
Modding, testing, pictures tomorrow...
