| maxtor hardrive windowing i wanne make a plexi window in my Maxtor 80Gb 7200rpm Diamondmax plus 9 i made 2 window mods to some older hdd's but none of them realy worked 1st was f***** up because some dust felled on the platter 2nd was just an old one and the jumpers where off en i didn't find a way to start it so i am ready for my 80 gb one i have a question about something, i read something about some points you can solder the leds on the hdd. or maybe the active led output to the leds i am going to putt in the hdd (4 bleu 3mm ultra bright leds) so if someone knows where i can solder the wires to, be glad to tell me if you want tnx i'll keep you posted

| maybe you can put leds throught the jumper.....i would monitor the voltage afterwards if you try that |

| be very careful when doing it. get a compressor and blow the HDD and your tools clean. use a room with as little dust as possible. you've already managed to get it done correctly once? |

| yes maybe i just solder it on a +5 v point, i'll do the removel of the front in a plastic bag yes i think the 2nd was well done but the hdd was so old i couldn't see it on boot(something with the jumpersettings, so its a closet stand for now

| I've read a guide about this once: They opened the hdd in the bathroom after having the hot water run for a while The water vapor sticks to the dust in the air and falls to the floor. then they quickly opened the hdd and placed it in a plastic sealable bag. |

| i just openend the hdd to have a look @ the inside. it looks not easy to connect the wires to the leds. but i am going to cut the middle of the hdd cover later this day. pics w'll follow

| the project is on hold for 2 weeks because i dont have good unscratched plexi here and i must look good offcourse and because i dont wanne open the hdd 3 times( every time i open it the less chances it survives) this is my victim

| oke now i've got the time and the tools to make the window(brand new dremel) i am going to cut that cover to smithereens. about the ledstuff, just going to make a tiny hole in the cover and let the wires come true there. its going to be 4 ultra bright blue leds i think. white is a nice colour too but,i'll see mhh glue them with hot glue i'll make enough pics for a how-to
