That's all they had or that's all you bought?

Da_BoKa 19th January 2005 12:22

that was everything that they had, and i bought the 256 stickies,

now i'm off to go and pick up the epox mobo :)

kirriwirri 19th January 2005 17:23

Are they ok? @ Akiba they say,

Unfortunately sticks with "M.tec" labeled chips seem to overclock much worse than Twinmos ones. TwinMos probably dumps chips that haven´t passed their QC to M.tec. M.tech also uses different PCB, so the difference can also be caused by that.

easypanic 19th January 2005 17:41

Mwuhahaha

Da_BoKa 19th January 2005 22:29

it's the other way!

the mtec chips seem to oc higher, and they don't have teh brainpower pcb ( sp does )

easypanic, what with the laugh?

1GB DC kit @ compu-square: 18*.** €'s :)
they weren't speed premium kits

2 dots
metal marks
AA4T
A8A (no brainpower pcb, only on speedpremiums?)
TwinMOS
04514 (04464 only on speedpremiums?)
50D

Da_BoKa 20th January 2005 23:28

I should wait to buy a gb kit!
untill you now for sure they are great ocers!

then it must have been some exceptions that i have seen!

tough my non SP use the same pcb like the SP! ( KO-6633 )

Da_BoKa 31st January 2005 15:12

bad luck, it seems like they max out at 235 mhz on 3.2v, even on 3.6 i can' get them stable at 240 mhz, not even after a night of burning in!

kristos 31st January 2005 19:25

Too bad :grum:

both sticks?

You didn't use all the same settings as for BH-5 did you? In the Stilts review on Akiba he mentions a setting that was best for BH-5 but kills overclock on VX

yep, together in DC, i'll test them seperately, and also different dimms

i've went up to 237 fsb at cl2 2-2-5

what do you mean with same settings as Bh-5

When I started to test these modules, I did few preparations. I set multiplier to 14x instead of default 19X, raised VDDR voltage to 3.2V for starters, set latencies to 2-2-2-5-70µs-64µs (which were fastest with BH-5) and set FSB to 200MHz. Then I started Memtest and chose test #5 and saw it.... To fail over thousand times in the FIRST pass. I thought, ok one of those sticks are defective, lets try another pair. And guess what, same errors with new sticks. Then I tested the sticks one by one, but still got same errors. It´s unneccessary to tell how dissapointed I was, because I thought that these sticks contained the same stuff that the ValueRam that I had tested in late of 2004.

Actually I lied about changing multiplier to 14x, since 19x multi never worked of this [censored]ing piece of **** DFI

When I cleared CMOS, set same settings in bios, and tried Memtest again, guess what? It worked like charm up to 230MHz 2-2-2-5 without raising voltage from 3.2V. When I went back to bios, I noticed that I had forgot to set refresh mode to 64µs and left it to Auto instead. After testing this setting again, it was certain that setting refresh mode to 64µs totally killed overclockability of these sticks. On Athlon 64 platform overclokability was similary killed if tRFC was set to anything else than 15.
