Can't get the irams to work, not even on ICH. Gigabyte board does not recognize them

(This is on other board, sata only connection to gigabyte)

Have you reset the Irams and plugged-in and -out the memory sticks? I've had to do that sometimes; mostly when parts of the RAID array are still on the 'disks'.
