FSB 1Ghz, CPU 4Ghz

Hypothetical system up:

- Asus P4C800-E
- P4 3.2C Ghz
- Corsair PC4000 ram

set fsb to 250mhz --> cpu reaches 4 Ghz it's easy simple

not easy --> what voltage must be supplied to the cpu and what type of cooling would be necessary?

excellent sink with fanadapter to 120mm performant fan enough?
WC required?
Phase Change is a must?

some thoughts?

northbridge would need some cooling as well I'd guess

jmke 23rd September 2003 23:11

a HQ heatsink should suffice
no NB cooling required

vcore voltage amount will varify from CPU to CPU

Pirre 24th September 2003 18:17

will a swiftech mcx4000 + 80/120mm fan adapter + enermax 120mm fan, with 3 inblowing case fans and 3 blowing out do the trick aswell you think?

jmke 24th September 2003 18:23

surely, I ran my 1.8 @ 3ghz using a MCX4000
so a small OC of 800Mhz should be do-able ;)

Pirre 24th September 2003 22:36

then why do they use phase change for only 3.8 GHz?

Becuase that is a system for n00bs :D

well said
it is through that the maximum limit of the P4 chip is around 4ghz when using conventional cooling.. seeing as Liquid3D runs his P4 2.4C@3.6Ghz with aircooling.. it could be plausible that a 3.2Ghz sample will reach 400Mhz more and get break magical 4ghz marker.
As with all the cpu's, each one is unique, and some just don't overclock as high as others. You have to be lucky in what HW that you get

The Senile Doctor 25th September 2003 16:24

3.6-3.7 is absolute maximum for air :)

if you wanna get that 3.2 to 4.0 you'll need chilled water or vapo/prommy.
period.

Warlord 8th October 2003 00:14

yea you will definately not hit 4.0GHz on air. :/

just read this article :p
