Da IceCase (800k pics)

IceCase, name comes from my original nick IceTea[GeNeX]. (oh and I had to come up with something REAL fast, but you figured that out alraeady didn't you)
Planet hosts the images, so blame them if it goes wrong.

The [H]ware:
Chieftec DX01-W, medium white case, NO door.
Epox 8RDA+, copper active NB, default passive of SB, and some alu on mosfets and voltage regulators.
AMD xp1800+ JIUHB.
Zalman CNPS7000, slightly modded to fit AMD XP.
TwinMOS PC3200 Winbopnd BH5
TT active memory cooling kit (really don't know why I got this one)
MSI GF4Ti4200 Vivo dual VGA 128MB.
TT GF4cooler 5V for silence.
Seagate cuda 4 20GB
Seagate cuda 5 120GB
Liteon 52-24-52 CD rewriter
Liteon 16*DVD
5*Papst NGM 80mm, 3front 2 rear.

Mods
Self made baybus 7-0-12V selection for front-rear-chipset fans.
Cut all fanguards for better airflow.
one slab of dynamat against vibrations
sound isolating foam where I could put some
moved an IDE connector to fit DVD and CD-RW on one cable.

Pics:
General vieuw, before sound isolation.

Sound isolated side panel

Detail shot of lower side of mobo

Top shot of case.

Detail shot of drives

Closeup of front bays.

Corner of shame, bit of a messy place, but I had to put the cable's somewhere.

Detail shot of the baybus, pretty simple stuff, but effective.

My 8 port level one switch, lightly modded, used to have a fan, but I removed it for silencing (was internally connected). It failed (crashed?) one summer, so I decided to fix it, the "right" way.

Results of all this:
XP1800+ @ 2200MHz (11*200MHz). 1.725 Vcore
DDR 200MHz (400MHz) CL 2-2-2-6 @ 2.9VDimm
Running pretty cool, 48°C was the max today for CPU, I'm in an attic that's pretty hot right about now (put in a wooden seat and I can ask admission for a sauna, get it)
Running pretty stable, sometimes craps out on my while booting windows with a 0x000000C5 error. Nothing helps exept turning it off for a second. Then it will run again at full speed.
PC itself is very silent @ 7V, due to soundproofing, the chipset can't be heard, so I'm going to leave that @ 12V. Also because of personal cooling requirements, the papst @12V also fades into nothing.

MBM shot

There you have it.
Enjoy.

Does the sound isolation really work, I mean is the difference audible?

veder 17th June 2003 11:40

and doesn't it create a temp boost?

FreeStyler 17th June 2003 15:03

Well I can run my chipset fan at 12V without it disturbing me. Of course, it's a bit subjective since I have a big fan right behind me keeping my head cool ATM. I get the feeling that my PC is cooler then myself.

Temp boost is negligable. With 6 fans moving air trough the case, the heat dissapation of the metal is nearly zero.

I got a dynamat taped to the bottom to prevent vibrations too. The sound dampening of this is questionable, but it might be good stopping vibrations. I used to have a PC that I could feel trough my mouse. Small note: it was standing free on the floor.

looks very nice, now I consider doing this myself...
"Temp boost is negligable" u say? Sounds perfect :)

Providing you have enough ventilation, not too much of a problem with a Xaser 3.
Don't try to muffle a Delta Screamer however, won't do much good.

very nice mod, make me more cuz i need some ideas for my own casemod... ;) ;);)

I Think I'm going to rename it.
The IceTea Impreza.

Got the idea of a collegue of mine, he's a bit fond of cars and he loves these. They pack a whole lot of power, but they look pretty ordinairy.

I got 2 other PC's here ATM. But I'm not going to do a report on them. One's my internet server, the other my file server.
Since I images most of my CD's on this one, and using daemontools over network instead of swapping CD's. I kinda need both of these running all the time.
