6200 to 6600(GT) softmodding/OCing Thinking of buying a new vidcard, though, it should cost to much. I was first thinking of buying a 6600GT card, but now I read almost all 6200 can be softmodded/OCed to a 6600(GT)! Would be great ofcourse, since those cards cost half as much! You guys think I make a fair chance of transfering this card? MSI NX6200AX-TD128 AGP Geforce 6200 128Mb DDR It would cost me about €65 <> €150 for a 6600GT :) Which cards have bigger chances of being softmoddable to 6600(GT): - normal 6200 - 6200 with TurboCache ? |
Don't even think of touching the TurboCache 6200, it sucks. I'm very satisifed with my Normal 6200.:) Does 19,000 3Dmark01; ~7000 3Dmark03; 3,000 3Dmark05 and about 68 FPS Doom3 @medium. Although 6600GT in the U.S. can now be had for ~$145 while the 6200 is <$80. |
So you were able to unlock the 4 extra pipelines? (with Rivatuner?) |
are we talking PCIe or AGP cards here? there IS a difference in OC potential.. |
Prolly AGP, as I don't want to spend money on PCIe hardware YET (mobo, cpu,...) |
For AGP, buy a 2nd hand 9800Pro, like I did :) and update BIOS to 9800XT if it is R360 core. |
Is the performance difference that big? A 9800Pro 2nd hand still costs more here than a new 6200. A 6200 is standard passive cooled => quiet. How about power usage? Can I suppose a 6200 uses (much) less power? (numbers?) Not to forget I can get a 6200 pronto, while finding a 9800 at a decent price may take some time... And most important: didn't have much luck the last times I bought second hand vidcards :( I think my mind is pretty much made up, but if I'm wrong, please correct me! |
Never buy from gamers:) Dell, HP OEM cards are normally good to very good. I can't say much about the AGP version 6200, I don't know. Never buy in a hurry :) |
