533>400FSB P4 wire trick

I want to let my gigabyte 845PE motherboard think my 2.4B 533FSB is actually a 100FSB proc, so I can use the 3:4 mem divider.

Does anyone knows how?

jmke 30th March 2003 19:26

?? I didn't know that was possible

why do you want to do this, please share :)

The 2.4B i've got here doesn't reach 160mhz FSB (400mem 4:5 divider) with the stock intel cooler. If i could trick it into a 400FSB proc, i could run it at 150FSB and 200mhz mem (3:4).

I've got a dozen PC3200 sticks, and i want to test them both on an intel and AMD platform. :)

uhm you are talking about unlocking/changing the multiplier on a P4 ... :)

RichBa5tard 31st March 2003 06:39

No, i'm just talking about the default FSB of the proc. 400 instead of 533, multi stays the same.

I know it's possible. And there's a guide on xtreme...

jmke 31st March 2003 06:40

if multi stays the same you can just drop the FSB to 100 :p

No, underclocking in the bios doesn't make the 3:4 mem divider available. Only if the mobo recognizes the proc as a 100FSB one, i can select 3:4.

didn't knew that

i'll remeber that, btw where's the guide to do it

we are looking for it :)
only found wire-trick that will change the voltage.. are you sure that you can the FSB ?

Aha, found it!

If you have a INTEL P4 that maxes out before your memory on the 4:5 ratio because you have a 533fsb cpu.

Want the 3:4 ratio on 845E/PE mobos, for your memory??
Heres the fix.
Niko from Xtremesystems turned me on to this helpful hack.

Connect the pins circled in yellow, and your 533fsb CPU, will now be deteceted as a 100fsb part. In your BIOS you should no see the option for 3:4 ratio. Seems to work on most motherboards.
