220V ~ 12V conversion, possible ?
 

well, situation is like this ...

i just got my hands on 3 fabulous 120mm Papst fans ... the real ones, that would be : fully made of metal, a helluva lot CFM -> the industrial version of those plastic thingies we are used to ;)

but, there is a minor side to these beauties : they run at 220V, so that would mean integrating some way to hook them up directly to the powernet (dnno how it's said in english, don't feel like looking it up or poundering about it ...)

i know, it ain't hard ... and i could perfectly do this, but i'd rather not ...

does anybody now any way to convert this to 12V, so i can hook em up to my regular psu -- or is this against all rules of electronix or something ?

no, that's not possible, the only way you can use those fans is by connecting them to a 220V~ powersource

damn ... i already thought so, but can't blame one for trying

even if it worked...the price of such a powerful converter would bee too steep

hot wire them to the back pins of the PSU.

cut open a power cable and use the wires for the PSU AND your 230v fans

well -- if i was about to use 'm, then i would of done it somewhat the same way you suggest duron ...

i just would have trashed an old AT psu, taken out the mains connector & modded it into the back of the case

but since there's no way to adjust the speed and noise of these fans, i'm going to find another goal for it ... or might just sell 'm

but now i've got everything installed & holes drilled already for my original baybus ... pretty tough choice :^/

make another one (in a second bay cover) with 'heavy duty control' :p

it's possible, only the cost of that converter is about € 250 :(
