nVidia Unveils the new GeForce Go 6800

Sometimes, bigger isn't necessarily better. Just ask anyone who's tried to parallel park an aircraft carrier. When we first previewed nVidia's NV40 architecture in our GeForce Go 6800 Preview, we wondered how well the architecture would scale down for mobile platforms. With an awe-inspiring 222 million transistors in the 16-pipe version of the GPU, we couldn't begin to imagine how such a behemoth would ever make its way into a laptop chassis. Today nVidia isn't ready to unveil a 16-pipe fire-breather, but it is taking the wraps off a 12-pipe that will begin shipping today in laptops from Voodoo PC, Falcon Northwest, ProStar, Sager, and Alienware.
