@ 2012/11/05Graphics chip maker Nvidia has told InfoWorld that it will be mixing its GPGPUs with ARM 64-bit processors in future Tesla products.
The company's chief technology officer for Tesla, Steve Scott, said that Tegra is going to become GPU computing capable in the not-so-distant future.
He said that sometime this decade the company is also going to start bringing integrated CPUs and GPUs together in the Tesla line.
Obviously sometime this decade is more nebulous than a Liberal Democrat education policy, but given that the ARM 64-bit gear will be out next year, we would have thought 2015 has a nice ring to it.
Scott was also talking about the ARMv8 processors, which should be common place by 2014.
What is odd, however, is that Nvidia was not mentioned by ARM in a row of current ARMv8 licensees, so it must wanted to keep its involvement quiet.
ARM has been keen to trumpet AMD, Broadcom, Calxeda, HiSilicon, Samsung and STMicroelectronics's involvement.
Nvidia might think that is onto a winner in the microserver market by combining Tesla with ARMv8 cores.
