@ 2012/07/17Restrictions on sales of the RaspberryPi have been lifted, with distributors now offering customers the chance to get their hands on as many devices as they want.
The RaspberryPi was met with staggering demand which took even its makers by surpise. This has meant that the machines have been somewhat difficult to come by and manufacturers struggling to meet demand.
According to the RaspberryPi blog, 4,000 of the machines are now being churned out in factories every day, while customers who want to buy more than one will now be able to.
“Up until now, we’ve had to restrict purchases of the Raspberry Pi to one per customer because the demand has been (and continues to be) so high,” the post read. “Both of our manufacturing partners have been working at building capacity so you we can lift that limit.”
As of today anyone interested in grabbing a slice of the RaspberyPi will be able to place unlimited orders through distributors RS Components and element14/Premier Farnell.
Potentially good news, then, for school pupils as the devices are aimed at sparking a renaissance in computer programming. Of course, it is not only youngsters who have shown interest.
For now, customers will have to join the queue, as the devices are not expected to arrive until the end of September.
Last week it was announced that the RaspberryPi had helped increase the sales of Electrocomponents, which trades under the name RS Components. The devices, at the time under limited availability, were directly responsible for two percent growth increase in UK sales.
