On June 12th please join SMPTE Hollywood section as noted industry expert Tom Coughlin of Coughlin Associates helps us navigate the tricky seas of storage for the Media and Entertainment world. His talk will explore the requirements and growth trends for all aspects of digital storage for professional media and entertainment, based upon an upcoming report on this subject.

For many professional media and entertainment applications latency and performance play important roles. The performance and latency of storage systems depends upon both the storage devices being used as well as the direct attached or network interfaces connecting these devices and the user. He will explore the latest developments in storage devices and digital communication interfaces and show where and how they can be used to create the entertainment workflow of the future.

Tom is the founder of the Creative Storage Conference which focuses on digital storage for professional media and entertainment and is happening later in June in Culver City. The 2012 Creative Storage Conference (CS 2012) on June 26, 2012 in Culver City, CA (www.creativestorage.org) explores the latest trends in storage devices and systems used in all aspects of professional media and entertainment. This year we have a Keynote talk by ARRI about digital storage for content capture, including a panel discussion with storage and content capture experts following the keynote. Our other keynote talk by Clyde Smith of Fox Networks looks into the latest developments for object-based workflows. We continue to explore the trends in new storage technology such as SSDs and cloud storage in the M&E industry. Cloud storage is becoming an important element in creating collaborative 24X7, international media workflows. New developments such as the LTFS file system in LTO tapes are being used to create new cloud-based archives that will provide on-line access to enormous libraries of professional content for monetization and display. After
5 information packed sessions we will end the day with a reception sponsored by hVault who are bringing holographic archive storage to the M&E industry for long term addressable archives with enormous potential for storage capacity growth and even inexpensive physical content distribution. The conference has more exhibitors than ever before giving attendees a chance to interact and meet with potential vendors and partners in a relaxed but informative setting.
