AMD sees gold in India

AMD claims that its future recovery is dependent on it doing well in India.

Chief executive Rory Read has been visiting India with his entire eight-member AMD executive team for its first meeting outside the US.

According to the Times of India AMD's India sales grew 36 percent, which is six times that of the industry average.

Read thinks that AMD can do even more in India and there is a lot of opportunity in the country.

The first thing he has to overcome is the fact that Indian companies are concerned about problems the company had with production constraints at AMD facilities.

Read told AMD employees that their dedication is paying off in meeting some tight product timelines.

To show that Read had swatted up on India a little more than just looking it up on Google maps he amused the crowd by using cricket expressions to describe his company's progress and the opportunities ahead.

He said that AMD was just at the beginning of the game. If this is a cricket match, we are just on day one of the five day test match, he said. Fortunately no one asked him to explain some of the finer points of test cricket.
