Higgs Boson Hunt Enters Endgame

The long sought after answer to the actual existence of the Higgs boson particle should be answered by the end of the year. New data collected recently is being analyzed and the results will be published sometime before the end of the year. Called The God Particle by the media, its name often stirs more controversy than the search for the particle itself. Analysis of the very latest data from this autumn — which Murray isn't yet ready to share — will scour the range that remains. If it turns out to be empty, physicists may have to accept that the particle simply isn't there.
