Intel to move staff out of Ireland

@ 2011/11/07
Reports coming in from Ireland suggest that hundreds of Chipzilla staff in the outfit's Co. Kildare plant may be asked to transfer to the US.

Over the weekend, the Sunday Business Post claimed that more than 300 people at the Leixlip facility have been told they may have pack their bags and take a steamer to Ellis Island for processing.

According to the Irish Examiner the move comes after the multi-national company decided to shift production of its next generation chips to America.

Intel is apparently trying to scale back production "due to uncertain global demand". We have reported how Ireland has been fighting Israel to get Intel to shove more chip making gear in its country.

It is not clear from the reports who the 300 people are, or what their function would be across the pond.

If the early reports are correct, then it would seem that Intel is washing its hands of foreigners and wants to keep its next generation operations Stateside.

There has been no independent confirmation from Chipzilla yet.
