4TB hard drive: Hitachi preps for launch

@ 2010/05/13
We’ve all got our ‘I remember when they launched the X capacity drive’ stories. Some memories begin with the 5MB Winchesters, while others didn’t start noticing that size does matter until Hitachi and Seagate went neck and neck over the line to launch the 1TB drive in May 2007.

Hitachi is now readying plans to unveil the 4TB Mars drive before the year is out.

Same news that said 3TB drives were launching this year also said 1TB laptop drives would be out with them.

I don't like laptop drives, they never last as long as a desktop model.

I want laptop HDDs to get to 1GB and more, at 7200RPM. (guess having high capacity platter HDDs will be the option for most people with netbooks/laptops considering how slow SSD prices are going down)

you need 4TB storage in a laptop?

these drives will be excellent for file servers, 10 of those in RAID 5, 36Tb crash safe storage
I would never put 4TB of data on one drive and not create a backup copy; it that drive crashes you lose 4TB worth of data... no thanks

Wait a minute, 3TB drivers were just making news, suddenly it's 4TB now?
