Intel to Update Desktop Microprocessor Lineup Next Quarter

@ 2010/02/17
Intel Corp. plans to update its family of desktop central processing units next quarter. The update will further strengthen already strong lineup from the company and in case of performance-mainstream range will be the final update this year. Going forward the company will only add energy-efficient chips into the line, but will not bring speedier products.

In the second quarter of 2010 the world’s largest maker of chips will introduce several new models, including Core i7-880, Core i5-680 and Core i3-550 central processing units, sources close to the company told X-bit labs. The models 880 and 680 will remain the fastest chips for LGA1156 platform throughout the rest of the year, whereas the model 550 will be succeeded with higher-performance offerings going forward.
