ATI Is Working on Radeon HD 5000 Series Refresh For Summer 2010

ATI knows that it will take serious muscle to go against Fermi GF100 based cards, but it still has a few more cards to play. Whenever Nvidia realistically launches its new GF100 40nm based card, ATI should have its kicker chip around the corner.

They did this with 4890, the first gigahertz card and got quite a lot of attention so you can easily expect a new 58x0 card with pretty much the same agenda. We don’t know any specs at this time, but we know that the company is working on such a card.

Surfing the WWW after the FC2 benchmarks were released, we saw some interesting data sets, people with HD 5870 overclocked to 1Ghz GPU were able to come very close to the GF100 results, and this with similar clocked systems; So if AMD is able to produce enough 1Ghz capable GPUs for a HD 5890 , they stand a good chance to keep performance/price crown.
