DDR2 and DDR3 prices going up

@ 2009/09/08
PRICES for 1Gb DDR2 and 1Gb DDR3 have continued to increase. A Gb of DDR2 will set you back $1.53 and a Gb of DDR3 costs $1.66. According to the beancounters at DRAMeXchange these represent price increases of 8.5 per cent for DDR2 and 5.1 per cent for DDR3. Contract quotes for 2GB DDR2 and 2GB DDR3 modules have gone up to $27.50 and $29.50, respectively, on average in the first-half of September.

It is predicted that the market will make sudden changes when the price of DDR3 becomes cheaper than DDR2 for the first time. Hardware makers are then likely to switch their system over to the more advanced memory and DDR2 will slowly become a thing of the past.

Aye, wish I had bought a bunch of them so I could resell them. :P

I know it isn't specific to my kit either. I was shopping for RAM at the time and I tend to be thorough when my money is involved. There used to be a minimum of three, maybe four 1600MHz kits at or below $100 on Newegg at the time, ignoring rebates. Today the cheapest 1600MHz kit is $115 from Geil and $120 from Wintec, no OCZ, Patriot or G.Skill kits anywhere in that range anymore.

Maybe they switched IC's on that particular kit Kougar... I find them P55 kits far too expensive...

that's quite a hefty priceup, higher than that chart would lead you to believe; that's more than 2x the price, while the chart doesn't show 2x

Was wondering if anyone had noticed this.

Bought a OCZ Platinum 6GB DDR3-1600MHz CAS 7 kit of RAM... In June it sold for $75, now in September the same kit is $159.

Still are some ~$100 6GB kits, but none with the specs one could get three months ago for a little less.
