AMD has silently released a new dual-core Athlon II CPU. Athlon II X2 215 has appeared at several online stores and regular stores in Asia. The processor steps in as the new entry model of the AMD Athlon II family, and has been absent from any roadmaps in the past. The clock frequency is set to 2.7GHz, which is on par with Athlon II X2 235e which is expected to launch later this month.

The processor spawns from the 45nm node and supports DDR2 and DDR3 through its integrated memory controller. Athlon II X2 215 sports 2MB L2 cache (2x1MB), SSE4A, AMD-V, and AMD64. As the new entry model of the Athlon II X2 family prices are expected to be in the $50 price range when it appears in more local stores.
