OCZ's Z-Drive SSD gets a makeover

@ 2009/09/04
Still boasting the PCIe x4 interface, the 'new and improved' Z-Drive features MLC (multi-level cell) NAND flash chips, comes in 250, 500GB and 1TB capacities, has 256MB of cache memory and an onboard RAID controller which enables it to reach some uber-sweet speeds - up to 878 MB/s and 781 MB/s, while reading and writing, respectively (for the 1TB model).

The Z-Drive also has a MTBF (mean time before failure) of 900,000 hours, requires extra power via a 4-pin MOLEX connector and is backed by a two-year warranty. Unfortunately, the SSD is not yet available and when it will, the price tag (over 1,000 Euro) will make a lot of wallets run for the hills.
