Consoles holding back game devs from using DX10/11

This is something that we realized some time ago, and a few weeks back at Nvidia headquarters, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang also confirmed most new games don't utilize DirectX 10. The games of the future are still mostly a DirectX 9 games with a few exceptions and the reason behind it are consoles.

This year won’t be so different as big publishers want to sell games on PC, Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 and if it can run well, even on Nintendo Wii and older consoles such as Playstation 2 and the original Xbox. If they program for Xbox 360 and Playstation 3, the hardware inside is stuck with DirectX 9-like graphics inside and this won’t change at least until the next generation consoles comes out. DirectX 10 still has a few supporters also due to the fact that it runs only on Vista, operating system that is not that popular and the introduction of Windows 7 will do it good.
