ATI Radeon HD 4770 Review - $99 Performance Monster

@ 2009/04/24
It seems that the conversion of GPU’s manufacturing process has been lagging behind CPU cycle, but this history is going to be rewritten soon, as AMD debuts the world’s first graphics processor, RV740, which takes advantage of 40nm processing, which means GPUs will overtake CPUs for the first time in history of IT in terms of production nodes.

Power Usage is down:

- ATI HD 4770 vs ATI HD 4830 = 4770 is 8% faster
- ATI HD 4770 vs ATI HD 4850 = 4770 is 5% slower

So far so good; the HD 4770 lands smack in the middle of their other mid-range products.

- ATI HD 4770 vs NVIDIA 9800 GT = 4770 is 20% faster
- ATI HD 4770 vs NVIDIA GTS 250 = 4770 is 8% slower

This card is competition for ATI's own products, at $99 it's hard to choose the HD 4850 for $40 more as the performance boost is not the same as the price increase. NVIDIA doesn't stand a chance at this price point as they still have the Geforce 9600 GT available for ~$100; the more expensive 9800 GT is up to 20% slower...!
